Internet speed test - why you need to know

In this era of technology, we all use smartphones, laptops, tablets and of course internet. The Internet is the greatest invention of all time and almost everyone existing on this planet is using the internet. The Internet is available at different connecting speeds and different packages. Here you’ll be thinking that what is meant by internet speed? Internet speed is the performance of an internet connection, which is based on the number of bytes per second that data travels from the user's device to the Internet (upload) and from the Internet (download).

If you have an internet connection working with you and you want to check the speed you are surfing with, then you can use any app available on the internet to check the speed of your internet. When you will use a speed tester, you will see these the tester measuring these things.

Download speed:

Whenever we run a speed tester to test the speed of our internet we can see the speed tester to measure the downloading speed. What’s that? Downloading speed is the speed with which you can download things from the internet. Average global download speed is 6.3 Mbps. For example, if your home or office connection has a connection of 6 Mbps then your download speed will be above 5 Mbps.

Upload speed:

Another thing that the speed tester app will show you is the upload speed. This is the speed with which you can upload your data on the internet. Your internet upload speed is usually the 1/5 of your internet connection. For example, if you have a connection of 5 Mbps then your upload speed will be around 1 Mbps.

The most important thing the speed tester will show you is the Ping in milliseconds (ms). Ping is a networking utility program or a tool to test if a particular host is reachable. It is a diagnostic that checks if your computer is connected to a server. It also determines the latency or delay between two computers. It is used to ensure that a host computer which your computer tries to access is operating.

Ping, a term taken from the echolocation of a submarine, sends the data packet to a server and if it receives a data packet back, then you have a connection. The term "ping" can refer to the time it takes for a data packet to travel round-trip. It means "get the attention of" or "check the presence of".
